Nelson MullinsBoston, MA LS3P was presented with the opportunity to transform the staid darkness of legacy client Nelson Mullins’ Boston office into one which maximized the flow of natural light throughout. Towering above Boston’s Financial District at One Post Office Square, this prime location affords visitors and staff access to views of Post Office Square Park, Rose Kennedy Greenway, and Boston Harbor. Along with a ‘night to day’ transformation came a seemingly ‘overnight’ schedule. The office had to stay operational during demolition and construction which started on December 1st, 2016 and had to be completed no later than March 31st, 2017. This lobby renovation is the first of three phases that will transform the two floors of the law firm, setting the standard for the work to come. Phase 1 includes the lobby, waiting area and conferencing suite. The new lobby greets you with a custom, backlit, perforated metal ceiling illustrating Boston Harbor. A custom-built reception desk flanks the entry and sits opposite the waiting area, grounded by a rich, organic rug. The lobby, waiting area and circulation space also serve as pre-function space for the conferencing suite beyond, accented with wood millwork within cove-lit niches. The conferencing suite was reconfigured to exist as continuous space along the exterior, creating maximum flexibility in room sizes and furniture arrangements through Skyfold vertical operable partitions and ganging conference tables. The conference room walls are separated from the adjacent lobby space with butt-jointed glazing, covered in a gradating privacy film.
