Forest Hills Elementary School

Wilmington, NC

One of the most important goals of this renovation and addition project was to maintain the school’s historic appearance within in a well-established Wilmington neighborhood. The new design creates a vibrant and accessible school for students and the wider community while respecting its neighborhood context.

The project added an elevator to the existing 1926/1942 buildings and upgraded all teaching and administrative spaces. Interior renovations incorporated details which reflect the era of the original construction. The addition includes 5 new classrooms, a media center with an outdoor reading room, a kitchen, and a cafeteria.

A multipurpose room was added to the scope of work during the construction document phase. The project schedule was adjusted to accommodate the additional work, with fall classes still beginning on time.
