Building Connections

Prominently positioned at the corner of Senate and Lincoln Streets, the Alumni Center serves as a signature destination for alumni while reinforcing the University of South Carolina’s presence within the Vista district. The building draws inspiration from the university’s iconic gated entryways and the historic character of its surroundings, creating an immediate visual connection to campus traditions. In this premier location, the Alumni Center functions as a new gateway between the Vista, Innovista, and the broader university campus, strengthening connections between the university and the city.

Design Details

Designed as a hub for engagement and events, the three-story facility features a ballroom, meeting spaces, catering kitchen, and an expansive pre-function area that extends onto an outdoor patio, activating the streetscape along Lincoln Street. A grand interior staircase creates a memorable arrival experience, drawing visitors to additional meeting rooms, the Board of Trustees boardroom, and the Presidential Dining Room on the second level, while administrative offices occupy the third floor. Sustainability is integrated throughout the design, from the use of regionally sourced brick and low-emitting interior materials with recycled content to high-performance HVAC, lighting, and building envelope systems that support long-term environmental responsibility.
