The three-story glass insertion provides a direct view into the historic sanctuary while also reflecting the sanctuary and steeple. The Bridge is angled towards the entry of the sanctuary, opening the interior program to the public and reinforcing the connection of past, present, and future.
The connections between the Interior and exterior were critical to the success of the design, and the intentional use of material proportions and alignments creates visual and physical continuity. Exterior landscaped seating areas connect along public pathways with the coffee shop. A basement entry for the youth area references The Bridge, and a separate entry allows for secure control and direct access to this active youth group space. Renovations to the openings of the lower-level coffee shop, study, and reception area allow for clear views into and out of the community-minded space. An existing mosaic tile art installation on the exterior of the structure leads the community into the main entry sequence, and new lighting better showcases the work.
The program includes administrative offices and lobby, a church library, large group meeting space, the Erskine College seminary suite and library, a coffee shop, a college worship area with 200+ person seating capacity and ministry suite, a youth commons with 100+ person seating capacity and breakout rooms, and church print production room.
