Modernizing the Passenger Experience
The Concourse C Interior Renovation was one phase of a larger terminal modernization program spanning all five concourses at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). Completed in association with The Wilson Group Architects, with LS3P serving as Associate Architect, the project updated floor, wall, and ceiling finishes throughout the concourse while introducing new technology features to better serve today’s travelers.
Additional amenities were integrated to improve passenger safety, accessibility, and comfort. Renovations were carefully phased and executed while the concourse remained fully operational, requiring close coordination to minimize disruption and maintain the airport’s day-to-day functions.
Design Details
The renovation introduced durable, low-maintenance materials selected to support the demands of a high-traffic airport environment while contributing to a cohesive and welcoming passenger experience. Updated finishes and amenities were designed to support intuitive wayfinding and reinforce visual identity throughout the concourse, balancing aesthetics, performance, and long-term value.
As a precursor to the renovation program, LS3P collaborated with two design firms to develop CLT’s design guidelines and finish standards for both existing and future concourses. Those standards established a unified design framework that informed the Concourse C renovation and helped create consistency across the airport’s broader modernization efforts.
