BEACON WELLNESS & COMMUNITY CENTER

This community project is a collaboration between Clinton College and the YMCA of Upper Palmetto, providing much needed facilities for the overall wellness of students and the community.

Since its founding in 1894, Clinton College has been a pillar of academic excellence and community engagement, serving as a beacon of opportunity for generations of students. As a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Clinton College is committed to providing quality education, promoting access to higher education, producing leaders and productive citizens, and fostering holistic development among its students. In alignment with its mission, Clinton College is embarking on a groundbreaking initiative to construct a Health and Wellness Community Center in partnership with the YMCA of Upper Palmetto. This facility will address the community health needs of the South Side of Rock Hill and promote health, wellness, and community empowerment. This grant will provide essential funding for the construction of the facility, which will serve as a hub for health, wellness, athletics, recreation and community engagement.

“The Beacon Center is not only one of the most exciting projects to be undertaken by Clinton College, this has the potential to quite possibly one of the most innovative and impactful community facilities on any historically Black College campus in the nation. In partnership with the YMCA, we believe that this will help address the critical needs for holistic health for at-risk communities, while providing a first-rate health and wellness facility, contributing to the common good a “state-of-the-heart” center. Rock Hill and the state of South Carolina will have a true community asset. We have a chance to look good while we do good.”

Dr. Lester A. McCorn, President of Clinton College

“I think this could be a unique model that is used across the country and I am really looking forward to getting started on this project and doing good things for the college and our community.”

Kirk Eich, President, YMCA of Upper Palmetto
