In an era of rapid change, designing a building which will serve the needs of its users for decades to come requires foresight, expertise, and a deep knowledge of resilient design practices. A hospital constructed today will need to accommodate current and future pandemics, greater social inclusivity, the impacts of a changing climate, evolving technology, population shifts, and new care models. Beyond these major elements, we can be certain that building, zoning, and ADA codes will change over time, as will equipment and other needs.
