We live in a world in constant evolution, and we experience driving forces of change that are both under and outside of human control. The “Future of Healthcare in the Southeast” white paper aims to match current and future trends in healthcare with optimal healthcare design strategies, learning from scientific evidence and experiences from across the industry. The Strategy of Healing Locating medical office and ambulatory care buildings strategically in a “hub and spoke” pattern within the community to accommodate increasing volumes of patients, and to make services easily accessible, is critical to the success of the healthcare system and to the health of the community. READ MORE LS3P PERSPECTIVES Espy Harper LS3P Innovation Leader Innovation Leader Espy Harper brings extensive experience in healthcare planning and design and a passion for health equity. Working with colleagues Taft Cleveland of SmithGroup and Tammy Thompson of ECU Health, Espy collaborated on the Community Achievement Racial Equity (C.A.R.E.) Framework to analyze and improve access to resources such as healthy food options surrounding healthcare facilities. Espy believes that by identifying disparities in the built environment impacting health outcomes for vulnerable populations, designers can work with stakeholders to drive positive change and more equitable pathways to access. Her article “Embracing Responsibility” appeared in the April 2024 edition of DesignIntelligence Magazine. Ron Smith LS3P RDU Director of Medical Planning Ron Smith, a Board Certified Healthcare Architect and past president of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health, brings over 30 years of Healthcare planning and design experience in project types including hospitals, specialty clinics, cancer centers, academic medical centers, primary care clinics, federally qualified health centers, and long-term care facilities. Jeff Mural LS3P RDU Healthcare Sector Leader As a nationally recognized specialist in behavioral healthcare, Jeff Mural has planned or designed over two million square feet on projects throughout the eastern part of North America, from South Carolina to Ontario.
