Rayo Daroowalla, AIA, LEED AP, CCS, CCCA
Rayo Daroowalla is a Senior Project Architect with 22 years of aviation and transportation experience. Rayo has served as project architect for a number of facilities at the CLT and Myrtle Beach airports, including multiple parking decks, rental car facilities, toll plazas, terminal expansions, and capacity enhancement projects. The CLT West Deck received an NC AIA Honor Award and IALD National Award of Merit. Other transportation designs include the complex Piedmont Town Center parking decks, which are unique multi-level precast decks flanking residential multi-family housing on 3 sides, and the 5-story Lowe’s Headquarters decks, which are connected to the office buildings via 100-foot elevated pedestrian bridges spanning a roadway. Rayo also worked on the design of the Center City Green parking deck, a LEED ® Gold facility which used an innovative double-thread “express helix,” in which one revolution accomplishes 2 levels in height.
Well-versed in a variety of project delivery methods including single and multiple prime, construction management, design/build, and design/bid/build, Rayo offers a wealth of expertise in design, technical production, and review for aviation and transportation projects. Rayo is also actively involved with CSI, and has served as its technical director, and certification committee chair. Acting as LS3P’s in-house expert, Rayo advises colleagues across the firm on code and constructability issues for diverse project types.
Rayo is actively engaged in the community, volunteering in numerous capacities at his church, participating in the We Care Community Program hosted by Herman Miller, and partnering with Community Crossing on annual mission trips to serve the under-resourced in West Virginia. Rayo can often be found hiking with his dogs, experimenting in the kitchen, reading a good book, or tending his gardens.
