The design team engaged patients, families, staff, and community members to create a solution that addresses their needs in a safe, welcoming atmosphere. This Unit often serves as the first impression for new patients and their families entering the UNC Health Southeastern system, making an optimal patient experience crucial.
The project converts a 34-Bed General Medical Surgical Unit of an existing 6-story bed tower, built in 2002, into a new Labor and Delivery Unit. The 20,000 SF renovation relocates the Women’s Services into this singular location including:
(8) Post-Partum Rooms
(8) LDRP Rooms
(7) Bay Level II, Continuing Care Nursery Unit
(4) Room OB Triage Unit
C-Section Operating Room Suite
Ancillary support space
The vision celebrates the historical context and natural environment of the Lumber River while integrating technology, staff respite, and patient and family amenities throughout.
