To support New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s continued growth and mission-critical operations, LS3P and Syska Hennessy transformed unfinished shell space within the Surgery Pavilion into a state-of-the-art data center and critical infrastructure hub. Designed to balance immediate operational demands with long-term scalability, the facility accommodates up to 80 IT cabinets and incorporates a Network Operations Center, DEMARC rooms, and dedicated receiving, storage, and equipment staging areas to support ongoing technology refreshes and system expansion.
The design prioritizes reliability, flexibility, and efficiency through an industry-standard Tier 2+ infrastructure with concurrent maintainability features and mechanical and electrical systems capable of supporting up to 410 kW of IT load. By locating critical support infrastructure outside the computer room, the team maximized usable data hall space while simplifying future growth. Delivered through an integrated, fast-track process in less than nine months, the project was shaped through close collaboration with NHRMC IT stakeholders to align technology deployment strategies with scalable power and cooling systems, creating a resilient foundation for the health system’s evolving digital operations.
