JFRD Health & Wellness Wins AIA Design Award Commercial Unbuilt Category

This unbuilt proposal for the Jacksonville Association of Firefighters Health and Wellness Center reimagines an abandoned school and church as a dedicated resource hub for those who have long served the public. Set within a cluster of underutilized structures, the design proposes the demolition and transformation of one building into a modern, accessible wellness facility for firefighters. As a multi-phase vision, the project provides physical and mental health support for first responders. The center honors the legacy of Jacksonville’s fire service, tracing back to the Great Fire of 1901 and the critical role firefighters have played in shaping the city’s safety and identity ever since. Through adaptive reuse and thoughtful intervention, the design respects both the history of the site and the sacrifices of those it intends to serve. This project is a commitment to care, recognition, and the future wellbeing of Jacksonville’s first responders.
