Clayton High School Groundbreaking

We’re excited to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Clayton High School—a school with deep roots in Johnston County, serving the community since 1901, with its first graduating class in 1904. This project replaces the existing high school and is being delivered through a Design-Build partnership with Barnhill Contracting. The new 2,000-student campus will introduce modern learning environments while the current school remains fully operational throughout construction.

Inspired by our Wilson’s Mills High School prototype, the new campus will feature a 1,500-seat gym, 750-seat theater, flexible CTE spaces, and a master plan that honors Clayton High’s legacy. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 22 months.
Proud of the K-12 team for bringing this vision forward for Johnston County Public Schools! And as a CHS alum, this project is especially exciting to see come to life! Go Comets!
