Atlanta Public Safety Training Center Leadership & Academic Buildings Receive LEED Gold Certification
We’re proud to announce that the Leadership and Academic Buildings on the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center campus have achieved LEED Gold certification—a recognition of the team’s commitment to sustainable, high-performance design.
This achievement was guided by LS3P values including the ethical commitment to the AIA Framework for Design Excellence and supported by vital LEED credit strategies across several key categories:
- Design for Integration: The project began with an integrative design charette that sparked collaboration and shaped the Owner’s Project Requirements, guiding decisions throughout the design process.
- Design for Ecosystems: The team conducted a site assessment, restored habitat, and preserved open space to support local ecosystems.
- Design for Water: Indoor water use was reduced by over 30%, and a native landscape was designed to thrive without irrigation after establishment.
- Design for Energy: Rooftop solar installations on both buildings contribute to energy efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
- Design for Resources: Construction waste was diverted from landfills through large-scale recycling, and materials were selected for their positive life-cycle impacts.
- Design for Well-Being: Indoor air quality was prioritized through mechanical design, low-emitting materials, and lighting that meets color rendering standards in regularly occupied spaces.
Congratulations to everyone involved in making this milestone possible! Special thanks to Amie Blankenship for championing this effort!
