A New Charleston Classic
Located in the heart of downtown Charleston, The Pinch transforms a collection of historic buildings dating to 1843 into a distinctive luxury hospitality destination that celebrates the city’s rich architectural heritage through thoughtful adaptive reuse. Designed in partnership with Morris Adjmi Architects, the mixed-use development brings together boutique accommodations, retail, dining, and gathering spaces around a central mews, creating an intimate urban experience that feels both timeless and contemporary. A carefully contextual new building anchors the development, featuring a refined limestone façade along King Street and a complementary brick façade facing the courtyard, seamlessly balancing historic character with modern hospitality.
Design Details
Drawing inspiration from the English traditions of craftsmanship that helped shape Charleston’s iconic architecture, The Pinch layers authentic materials, bespoke details, and residential-scale design to create a deeply immersive guest experience. The lobby is conceived as an inviting living room, featuring a reclaimed oxblood leather concierge desk, vintage furnishings, curated artwork, and a thoughtfully assembled collection of books and vinyl records. Throughout the hotel, walnut herringbone floors, handcrafted stonework, clay plaster walls, and richly detailed millwork reinforce the site’s historic character while elevating it through a contemporary lens. The result is a hospitality destination that honors Charleston’s past while offering a sophisticated and uniquely personal experience for today’s traveler.
