A New Home for a Growing Congregation
After years of meeting in a local YMCA, Storyhill Church established its first permanent home with a facility tailored to its growing needs and long-term vision. Completed in 2025, the building brings together two levels of children’s ministry space, connected by a large central lobby, and a 1,000-seat sanctuary organized in the round.
The sanctuary’s distinctive layout places the speaker and worship team at the center of the room, allowing the congregation to gather around them and creating a more connected and engaging experience. The building is designed to support a variety of ministry functions while encouraging interaction and community throughout its public spaces.
Design Details
A defining feature of the sanctuary is its wood ceiling and exposed trusses, which frame a central cupola and draw natural light into the space. Large Gothic-inspired windows further enhance daylighting, creating a bright and welcoming environment. Together, these elements establish a sense of warmth and openness while providing a memorable architectural identity.
Throughout the building, design elements reflect the church’s mission and values. Reclaimed furniture, finishes, and artwork were thoughtfully incorporated to express themes of restoration and renewal. This concept is further reinforced through details inspired by the Japanese practice of kintsugi, where cracks are highlighted rather than concealed. Painted gold accents within the concrete celebrate imperfection and transformation, creating meaningful visual connections between the architecture and the church’s core beliefs.
The result is a facility that balances functionality, community, and thoughtful design while providing a lasting home for Storyhill Church and its future growth.
