The new South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Forensics Laboratory houses 11 forensic science departments, each serving a distinct role in the analysis and processing of evidence associated with potential criminal activity. Advanced technology supports the laboratory’s operations while integrated emergency and security systems help maintain a safe, secure environment for staff, visitors, and sensitive evidence.

Supporting Science Through Design
The three-story, 120,000-square-foot facility is designed to support the specialized needs of forensic professionals while promoting efficiency and collaboration. The program includes dedicated collaboration spaces, a training facility, and flexible work environments that support both individual and team-based activities.
Sustainable, Secure Design
Sustainable design strategies enhance daylighting and energy performance throughout the building. The design introduces a contemporary architectural expression for a state agency facility while balancing public access and secure operations. The building footprint accommodates visitors touring the laboratories while maintaining the separation and security required for forensic functions. A second-floor outdoor space provides an additional amenity for staff use and gatherings.
