Savannah College of Art & Design Kiah Hall

Savannah, GA

The renovation of Kiah Hall, SCAD’s Collaborative Learning Center, created a variety of classrooms, studios, and meeting spaces in a historic 1850’s building. The new design facilitates interaction and idea generation by faculty and students to develop solutions for issues posed by private industry. The spaces encourage the exchange of ideas, presentations, problem-solving, and collaboration through various electronic and physical media.

The design received numerous preservation awards.

Owner Satisfaction:
Kiah Hall is one of SCAD’s oldest and most significant historic buildings. LS3P (Dawson) has worked with SCAD over many years to assist in its transformation while maintaining its historic appeal. The building has been adapted from its original use as the administrative headquarters of the Central of Georgia Railroad, then later used by SCAD as an art exhibition space, and now to a creative design think-tank called the SCAD Collaborative Learning Center (CLC) which includes classroom and studio spaces along with lounge and relaxation areas all woven together as a single collaborative ideation facility. Throughout the evolution of these varied uses, LS3P has provided design and construction administration services to meet ever-changing academic requirements.
