A Campus Gateway

The 36,000 SF renovation and 36,000 SF addition reimagine Kennedy Hall as a prominent destination on Sandhills Community College’s campus. Built on a site formerly occupied by a large surface parking lot, the project strengthens the campus fabric by enhancing pedestrian connections and establishing a welcoming new gateway on the east side of campus. Contextual materials and carefully scaled massing draw inspiration from surrounding buildings, creating a seamless architectural response that feels both modern and deeply rooted in its setting.

Design Details

A central spine corridor serves as the organizational heart of the addition, extending Kennedy Hall’s existing circulation network and creating intuitive wayfinding throughout the facility. Designed to support expanded health sciences and nursing programs, the interiors are defined by a bright, contemporary aesthetic that promotes collaboration and learning. A dramatic barrel roof and clerestory system introduce abundant natural daylight deep into the building, creating uplifting, high-performance environments that foster wellness, engagement, and academic success.
