Reimagining an Iconic Arena
The transformation of Littlejohn Coliseum honors one of Clemson University’s most recognizable landmarks while redefining the experience for student-athletes, fans, and visitors. In collaboration with AECOM, LS3P led a comprehensive renovation and expansion that modernized the nearly 50-year-old venue through new gathering spaces, advanced technology, upgraded amenities, and a bold architectural identity. By rotating the seating bowl to create new viewing opportunities and unlock previously underutilized space, the design brings spectators closer to the action while enhancing operational efficiency and flexibility throughout the facility.
A Connected Future
At the heart of the renovation is the Swann Pavilion, which unites practice facilities, locker rooms, coaching suites, sports medicine, and strength training spaces under one roof for Clemson’s men’s and women’s basketball programs. The new Burton Gallery serves as a dramatic arrival experience, creating a vibrant prefunction space that supports recruiting, special events, and game day activities. A contemporary metal façade accented with Clemson brick redefines the arena’s presence on campus, while opening the concourse at all four corners strengthens visual and physical connections to the surrounding landscape. Together, these improvements transform Littlejohn Coliseum into a welcoming, high-performance destination that celebrates Clemson’s traditions while positioning its athletic programs for the future.
