Guided by a broad coalition of civic leaders, planners, community advocates, and public stakeholders, the master plan transforms the district into a vibrant mixed-use environment rooted in collaboration and local identity. The vision prioritizes thoughtfully designed public spaces, equitable housing opportunities, and the preservation of the city’s unique history, creating a framework that balances growth with community character while fostering a strong sense of place.
A Thriving Ecosystem
Centered around a thriving ecosystem of arts, innovation, residential, cultural, commercial, and civic uses, the district is organized around eight strategic components that collectively shape its identity and long-term success. A reinvigorated Main Street along 9th Avenue, a retail-focused Downtown Core, a vibrant civic park, a cultural hub featuring a children’s museum and library, a commercial and civic gateway, a central civic complex anchored by City Hall, workforce housing, and an art museum work together to create a rich mix of amenities and experiences. By leveraging the power of “locational magnetism,” the plan establishes a compelling center of gravity for Myrtle Beach, where walkable destinations, engaging public spaces, and diverse live-work-play opportunities attract residents and visitors across generations while celebrating the city’s heritage and embracing its future.
