LS3P provided design and construction administration services to Appalachian State University for a comprehensive renovation and addition to the existing 54,100 SF, three-story Wey Hall for the Department of Art, originally built in 1975. This project expanded on a previous feasibility study by LS3P, which included third-floor and limited first-floor renovations. In addition to life safety improvements and building system modernization, the Wey Hall renovation and addition expanded existing studios and focused on student success through hands-on makerspaces.
A planned addition provided new elevator, circulation, egress, and mechanical spaces, freeing up space within the existing perimeter walls for student-focused areas. The addition and renovation tied into the campus master plan as the west anchor to the Arts Walk pedestrian corridor.
