Why Ligon Magnet Middle School? Why Now?

Ligon has demonstrated having some the highest life cycle cost needs in Wake County and was therefore identified as a school to be renovated or rebuilt on the list of WCPSS renovation projects in the 2022 Capital Improvement Program. Purpose of the WCPSS Board of Education Funding:

 

To provide a quality learning environment in support of the standard instructional middle school program per the NC Department of Public Instruction and Wake County Public Schools.

To create an appropriate number of classrooms and support space for a 936-student middle school with a focused Magnet program.

To align with current facility design guidelines per WCPSS, NC Department of Public Instruction and NC Building Code.

WCPSS Board of Education approved increase to $140,693,579 of Ligon MS project
