McDaniel Oaks

Exterior

McDaniel Oaks

Greenville, SC

Jim Neal, FAIA, Founder of Neal Prince Architects acquired this property in one of the oldest and most historic neighborhoods in Greenville. The neighborhood was delighted to see that when the house began to take shape, it had the scale, similar materials, and details of many of the houses in the existing neighborhood and was not an architect’s glass box.

The living, dining, and open kitchen walls are lined with book shelves with attached individual studies. The added height in this area is enhanced with a coffered ceiling, and the end wall is accented by a natural stone fireplace. The other spaces on the first level include a guest toilet, utility spaces, and master bedroom with individual bath rooms and walk-in closets. The second floor includes three guest bedrooms and two baths. The space below an eyebrow in the roof provided a fit for a stair enclosure, as well as an elevator.
