The primary goals for this project design were to reinforce the brand of a national law firm in a new southeast office, attract and retain the best staff, and provide a quality workplace for their employees and visiting clients. The solution is an efficient use of space, smart design, and the creation of an aesthetically pleasing and sustainable environment.
The leaders of this law firm sought a corporate high-rise in the heart of downtown Columbia for their seventh office location. They selected the 12th floor of 1441 Main Street since it had already gained its LEED-EB Gold certification. The entire team was committed to creating a sustainable design and healthy workplace environment: Architect, Tenant, Contractor, Building Owner, and Property Manager.
Key features for Bowman and Brooke include open daylight views from all points in the office, energy efficient equipment, low consumption water fixtures, energy efficient lighting and occupancy sensors, areas for recycling, recycled/recyclable materials, rapidly renewable materials including wood doors made of bamboo that were used throughout, green education program (signage), and low-emitting materials. Local professional artists pieces selected from local galleries are featured in the public areas that blend in with the overall aesthetics. One special large piece by Blue Sky was commissioned to represent one of the law firms most prominent clients.
