Oakview Elementary School

Oakview Elementary School

Greenville, SC

The Oakview Elementary School was a challenging elementary school project built in one of the newest and more affluent sections of Greenville County. As the 24-acre site was bordered by Godfrey and Moore roads in close proximity to Roper Mountain Road, site circulation was important. To mitigate this issue, separation between bus and automotive traffic was provided, and a separate drop off at one of three kiosks was incorporated for kindergarten use.

The building was programmed for 1,000 students in grades K-5, but future community needs were anticipated with classroom areas designed for orderly expansion. The main entry of the building focuses on an open atrium “commons” space that is sky lit and includes a center stage. The cafeteria and media center adjoin this atrium, benefiting from the natural light and from the potential to expand into this flex-space when needed.
