NEWTON FARMS AT FRESH FIELD VILLAGE

The Newton Farms Grocery at Freshfields Village was envisioned as the anchor of a mixed-use commercial center located conveniently close to residents and visitors of Charleston’s sea island resorts. The neighborhood that was created is a collection of locally owned businesses where shop owners and their customers know each other. The Newton Farms building fulfilled the role as the “original” tomato shed turned grocery store. The design was inspired by several historic island sheds in the area. The vaulted retail space, filled with natural light, filters through heavy structural barn elements. The store layout was inspired by open-air European markets and boosts a superb wine room and fresh local produce and seafood. Newton Farms is a subtle blend of Southern hospitality, fine food selection, and refined tastes.
