North Carolina State University | The William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation

This project constitutes the second and final phase of a truly unique collaboration between a public school system (Wake County Public Schools) and a major university (North Carolina State University). Located on the 1,200-acre Centennial Campus of NC State University, the Friday Institute is physically attached to the 600-student Centennial Campus Middle School, completed by in the summer of 2000.

Innovation and state-of-the-art technology are key elements in the design philosophy for the Friday Institute. The first floor of the center features administrative offices, demonstration, meeting and performance spaces including a 250-seat “Innovation Hall”. In contrast, the second floor houses more privately functioning spaces including project rooms, media resources and a collaboratory meeting lounge. The existing outdoor courtyard of the Centennial Middle School is utilized as shared space that enhances collaboration between the two facilities.
