This two-story, 32,500 SF facility, located on an edge of a regional community teaching hospital campus, was custom designed for the University of South Carolina’s School of Medicine Family Practice Residency Program in association with Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. The first floor is dedicated to patient treatment and support while the second floor houses administrative, faculty, and resident support space.
The center is organized around two, 18-exam-room modules or wings that facilitate smooth patient flow from check-in, to exam, to financial counselors, to procedure rooms, and to check-out activities. Exam areas are clustered in smaller pods for residents and attending physicians to work with the support of centralized nurses stations. Patient waiting and registration, medical records, and shared procedure areas are centrally located between the clinic wings for staffing efficiencies and access to records.
