LS3P assisted HDR Architects in the overallmaster-planning efforts for the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, a teaching hospital located in Wilmington, NC.
One of the project’s goals was to provide a “state-of-the-art” surgery pavilion. The new pavilion replaces 24 outdated operating rooms and provides a new central sterile processing to support the facility.
The patient entry and discharge canopy provide a seamless traffic flow, as well as protection from the elements for customers. There is a unique lobby space with a full-height curtainwall on two sides, which provides a visual link to the outdoor healing garden and brings in natural light.
The new surgery pavilion is connected to the existing hospital campus both aesthetically and functionally. Four existing OR rooms were renovated and included in the footprint.
