For those suffering from Cancer, this treatment center represents an oasis of rest. The design team was tasked with creating a meaningful environment that made the patient feel relaxed. Architectural elements such as double height spaces and non-orthogonal corridors create an open plan that breaks from the institutional feeling of so many medical facilities. A double-sided glass water feature in the waiting area creates a calming influence on the patients as they wait for treatment. Water gently spills down the glass into a re-circulating pool that flows into an exterior pool surrounding the treatment room. A quiet, yet elegant palette of neutral colors and furniture with simple lines was selected for the facility to reinforce a calming effect on the patient. Cork flooring was used throughout to soften the impact of sound from foot traffic. Contemporary, colorful art was designed into strategic areas throughout the facility to further convey a feeling of comfort and serenity.
