North Point Ministries in Alpharetta, Georgia, began to sense God leading them to extend their influence to other communities with the establishment of campuses in the greater Atlanta area. In the spring of 2004, Sean Seay (at that time the Director of Equipping at North Point) felt led to explore the Athens area and in January 2005, launched Athens Church.
In the spirit of being good stewards of God’s creation, it was decided to purchase an abandoned “big box” and retrofit it for the church campus. LS3P developed a master plan for the 108,000 SF facility, as well as design the first phase of construction which utilizes 48,000 SF. The Phase I worship center has 1,200 seats that includes riser seating around the perimeter. A central circulation and gathering area serves as the building hub, providing access to the children’s and youth ministry spaces. Each ministry space has a large group area with break-out rooms, while the youth area includes a gaming and lounge pre-function area.
