Lancaster City Hall

Lancaster City Hall

Lancaster, SC

ancaster City Hall was constructed in the heart of a newly revitalized downtown and incorporated the shell of an existing 4,000 SF bank branch, circa 1962, which had been used as the city offices for several years. For a strong civic appeal, the new 8,000 SF addition and the existing building were wrapped and completely renovated in a classical style, complete with a cupola and pergola. The building houses administrative offices, a 75-seat council chamber and the financial and utility billing departments.

The cupola is directly over an octagonal lobby space acts as a focal point for the building as well as a pre-function space for the chamber. The interior is classically organized and detailed with chair rail and wainscot moldings. Ceilings of the grand spaces are coffered and accented with crown molding. The floor of the lobby is finished in imported Italian marble slabs cut in a radial pattern.
