This station was commissioned to explore programmatic requirements and design solutions to establish a standard for the Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue Team. The resulting 3-bay, 7,900 SF station provides offices for the Captain and Fire Chief, a day room, dining room, overnight sleeping quarters for 3 shifts of 6 people, and support spaces.
The design prioritizes the best response and service to the public, quality of life for the firefighters, and the department’s present and future image. The new facility complements Hilton Head’s natural environment and establishes a civic presence for the community. Future city structures will be designed to meet the high standard set by the station’s unique design characteristics.
