Designed to hold up to 1,000 people, the Saunders Irving Chapel provides a blend of traditional architectural character with state-of-the-art technology. The seating arrangement also provides a blending of a traditional center-aisle nave with contemporary fan-shaped seating focused on the platform area. With its high vaulted ceiling and celtic-cross floor plan, the chapel creates a sense of worshipfulness appropriate to the spiritual heritage of the campus.
The building sits at the western end of the campus, overlooking a beautiful river valley. Located on the top of a hill, the building addresses the complex topography by providing a lower level reception hall that opens out onto a terrace that is cut into the slope. At the front and sides of the chapel, landscaped courtyards provide generous areas for fellowship and reception events. The Saunders Irving Chapel has become the focal point for a college dedicated to training people for pastoral leadership and music ministries.
