Wilmington Children's Museum

Wilmington, NC

The Wilmington Children’s Museum serves local teachers and community groups who use the museum for programming, field trips, and educational enrichment. The museum’s annual visitation was projected to exceed 30,000 in 2003, challenging the limits of the current facility. In response to their need for additional exhibit space, the Wilmington Children’s Museum teamed with LS3P to develop a new facility, which included three existing buildings in Historic Downtown Wilmington, NC.

Plans for the new museum called for five separate permanent exhibit areas, specified space for traveling exhibits, distinct art and science rooms, a gift shop, a multipurpose room, and an outdoor exhibit area. Construction of a large breezeway was proposed for the site serving to connect the three separate buildings.
