An old space gets a new lease on life
This renovation project transformed a 1960’s-era food storage warehouse into a state-of-the-art instructional facility for the rapidly-growing Culinary Arts, Hospitality and Tourism department. The design includes a multi-purpose room for banquets and conferences, 2 teaching kitchens, a production kitchen, a catering kitchen, an amphitheater demonstration kitchen, an instructional dining room, and mock hospitality training space. The teaching restaurant, very popular with students, staff, and the general public, offers a contemporary hands-on learning environment for the students. A large opening between the kitchen and dining room connects guests and aspiring chefs.
Curved walls of figured wood highlight the facility’s primary entrance and multi-purpose spaces. A new covered walkway creates a welcoming new entry, and expansive windows provide natural light and exterior views.
