SCAD Museum or Art
The SCAD Museum of Art rests on a historic railroad complex that had become dilapidated and abandoned. The project saved and restored the historic warehouse and infilled a glass and concrete structure to create this award winning museum and classroom building. This 64,000 square foot building includes a 250 seat auditorium, galleries, classrooms, art curation facilities and restoration space. A glass walled art gallery where there were once railroad tracks is a highlight of the space. The design culminates in an 86 foot tall steel and glass lantern which stands over a central atrium and serves as a beacon in the skyline of Savannah. The museum is an anchor for the college that acts as a vibrant center for student and university activities.
