A hotel gets the upmarket treatment
The renovation of an existing hotel required a sophisticated atmosphere, with a contemporary flair and distinctive local flavor. The design served to re-flag and re-brand the space as a Marriott Renaissance to appeal to an “upmarket” segment of the traveling public. Design themes pay homage the city’s namesake, Queen Charlotte, and her interests in botany and music. Hidden gardens lie in the interior atria and intimate courtyards.
A day/night bar transitions from a daytime coffee house to a trendy, sophisticated cocktail spot by night with a clever system of sliding doors. Backlit acrylic panels with circular patterns tie into the large round window in the atrium. An eco-friendly fitness center features floors made from recycled rubber tires, and ribbon artwork panels repurpose plastic water bottles. Other renovated spaces include 300 guest rooms, the central atrium, a restaurant and bar, ballrooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, a pre-function nook, and an indoor pool.
