The 1913 Court of Appeals Building, located across from the North Carolina State Capitol Building, is a prominent landmark within Raleigh’s Capitol Area Historic District. LS3P’s 2008 renovation design respects the traditional existing architecture, but provides a modern work environment with improvements to the existing courtroom. The project extensively reconfigured existing floor layouts to provide more functional office space and new interior finishes. An interior exit stair was demolished and replaced with a central “grand stair” which is open to all five floors, with a skylight at the roof. The project upgraded all systems and refurbished the exterior.
