Greystar Real Estate Partners
Would a company that combines four traditional lines of real estate—investment, development, construction and property management—into one young, energetic and fast-growing business, develop a headquarters that is similarly traditional and contemporary? That’s what you’ll find at the new 6,500 SF office for Greystar Real Estate Partners, in Charleston, South Carolina, designed by LS3P. The 32-person facility, consisting of reception, enclosed and open offices, conference rooms, restrooms/showers, kitchen/copy and utility spaces, graces its 1911 landmark building with Neoclassical architecture accented by “contemporary interventions.”
In effect, the design puts a modern spin on its conventional configuration of private perimeter offices and open-plan interiors. For example, private offices, enclosed in sleek, steel-and-glass partitions stretching from the heart-pine floor to the exposed ceiling and HVAC system, give everyone views of historic Charleston’s rooftops. Open-plan workstations, crafted of cypress wood in classic profiles, stay low to emulate the “trading floor” energy of the young staff. Historic furniture blends with modern pieces to reinforce the positive tension between old and new. Exposed MEP systems complement the building’s concrete structure above open-office areas but disappear behind a suspended ceiling of stretch vinyl in public areas. Has the past ever looked this timely?
