BRIER CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL & COMMUNITY CENTER
Following an extensive design competition, Wake County Schools and the City of Raleigh selected LS3P to design this new, 2-story “urban” elementary school. Housing approximately 650 students, the school serves as a focal point for the Brier Creek Village Center. A community center entrance allows easy access to classrooms, art rooms, computer labs, and athletic facilities, with core academic spaces grouped separately for security.
The compact footprint of the building responds to its constrained urban site. Careful attention to building scale and massing ensure a friendly, human-scale space, and exterior materials blend well with surrounding structures. A transportation plaza serves public transportation needs for both the school and the village center. The design utilizes a variety of green building strategies.
Future schools using this prototype design may be used throughout Wake County’s rapidly expanding metropolitan region.
