This world-class Forest Research campus started with a sustainable project led by LS3P in 1979. Design of this research facility focused on integrating the building into the environment, and providing state-of-the-art laboratories and greenhouses that celebrated the tenets of both passive and active solar design. The facility received architectural design awards and research industry recognition because of its innovative planning and its visual, yet environmentally sympathetic, impact. The building, one of the first of its kind in the world, helped Westvaco become a world leader in forest research, and helped launch a 30-year partnership between LS3P and MeadWestvaco, now WestRock.
