Neal Prince Studio’s Fisher Knob Residence, located on a steep and narrow lakefront site on Lake Jocassee, recently won a Design Excellence Award from Residential Design + Build magazine. The annual nationwide awards program recognizes residential design and construction firms for excellence in the single-family custom home market. The panel of judges that selected the 2013 Design Excellence Award winners consisted of architects, designers and custom home builders from the greater Chicago area.
The 5,000 SF home features dramatic open-water views and expansive porches, with a covered outdoor dining area and terraces to celebrate its connection to the outdoors. The building form works with the challenging topography of the site, accommodating 3 stories and 4 bedroom suites which step up the steep hillside. The natural stone construction complements the rocky landscape. Hand-cut fieldstone, Italian limestone, copper and cedar elements create a sense of timelessness in a structure which references the architectural forms of rural monasteries and winemaking structures in Western Europe.
Matt Tindall, AIA of Neal Prince Studio, was the home’s architect. The homeowners, Jeff and Sheri Osterfeld, were delighted with the results and with the process. “Our project was extremely detailed & Matt’s attention to every detail & creativity was excellent.” Construction was completed in 2011. Neal Prince Studio, the custom residential practice of LS3P, has a 40-year history of excellence in residential architecture. For more information, please visit www.nealprincestudio.com.
Residential Design + Build magazine is the only publication that reaches both architects and builders in the custom home market. Its editorial focus is on the close working relationship between architect and builder, which is necessary to produce truly custom homes in the United States.
