This year Charleston’s Earth Day team helped the small Nativity School of Charleston located on James Island. This school teaches about 100 students from pre-K to 8th grade on a site with ample outdoor space. Due to its small size, the school lacks the budget and muscle for building projects. They asked for help building an outdoor classroom and possibly a stage. Our LS3P team brainstormed with designers to plan concepts. Over the next several weekends, the team built an outdoor classroom and a stage for the school.
The team also plans to visit the school with the designers to learn about materials reuse, materials life-cycle, and how design can encourage taking advantage or local, available materials.
