Frank E. Lucas, FAIA is LS3P’s founder. When he started the firm in 1963 in a Charleston basement, Frank laid the foundations for a thriving firm which has grown to over 225 employees in six cities, with over 400 awards for design excellence. In 2014, LS3P was named Southeast Design Firm of the Year by Engineering News Record (ENR).

Elevated to the College of Fellows in The American Institute of Architects in 1983, and serving as the Chancellor of the College of Fellows in 2007, Frank has been a passionate advocate for the profession for over 50 years.  He received the Alumni Distinguished Service Award from Clemson University in 1992, was awarded the AIA South Carolina Medal of Distinction in 1997, and was recognized as Architect of the Year by the Charleston Contractor’s Association. A former President of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, Frank received its honored Joseph P. Riley Leadership Award in 1996.

Among Frank’s rich and diverse portfolio of projects is the Charleston City Market, one of the most vibrant commercial areas in South Carolina for which he was Co-Developer, Architect and Owner. The Christopher Company, of which he serves as President, still operates The Market 30 years later.  Frank and his wife, the former Edith R. Dority, are both native Charlestonians, and have three daughters and five grandchildren.
