Brier Creek Elementary School & Community Center
Raleigh, NC
Following an extensive design competition, LS3P was commissioned by Wake County Schools and the City of Raleigh for the design of this new, two-story “urban” elementary school. The Brier Creek School houses approximately 650 students in grades pre-K through fifth grade and serves as focal point in the village center. The tight footprint of the building responds to site restrictions often found in densely populated areas. Key architectural design elements include careful attention to building scale and massing to ensure a friendly, human-scale feel, while exterior building materials blend well with surrounding structures.
The school features a community center entrance allowing easy access to designated classroom spaces, art and computer labs, as well as athletic facilities including a gymnasium and fitness room. The core academic spaces of the school are grouped separately to address security issues. The school features a variety of green building design technologies.
