Charles  Boney, Jr., joined the firm in 1978, and offers over 30 years’ experience with civic, educational, medical, and historic preservation projects. With a Bachelor of Environmental Design from North Carolina State University’s College of Design and a Master of Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, Charles is also a graduate of the Young Executives Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Charles was elevated to the College of Fellows by the AIA in 2010 after 3 years as president of the NC Board of Architecture.

Charles’s diverse portfolio includes numerous University, Community College, and K-12 school projects; the Leland Town Hall and Police Headquarters, renovations to the USS North Carolina Battleship, and the Coastal NC: NWR Gateway Visitor Center and Headquarters. His work encompasses a number of comprehensive renovation projects, including many of his grandfather’s schools from the 1920’s. His 5 years of award-winning architecture commentary for local NPR-affiliate WHQR continues to be re-broadcast.  Charles is particularly adept at bringing life to projects with contextual design issues.
