Interior Designer

SUMMARY

LS3P’s Columbia, South Carolina office is seeking bright and ambitious individuals enthusiastic to develop their career and personal goals within a fast-paced, challenging and professional environment for an Interior Designer. This position will perform a variety of responsible and complex planning and designing of interiors that are practical, aesthetic and conducive to intended purposes. The successful candidate will be passionate about design, detail-oriented, efficient and devoted to quality output, able to work independently as well as in a team environment, possess the organization skills to prioritize tasks and handle multiple deadlines, and have excellent communication skills.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Architecture preferred or a Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Interior Design.

EXPERIENCE

An ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree and 10-15 years practical experience in a professional design practice.  Qualified applicants should possess or be willing to possess professional certification(s) such as NCIDQ Certification, AIA licensure, LEED or Green Globes Accreditation, etc.

Commercial design experience in both public and private sectors such as education, corporate commercial, and hospitality projects is preferred. Experience with graphics software such as Google Sketchup, Adobe Creative Suite and REVIT is preferred. Additional desired skills and experience:

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong team collaboration ethic;
  • Strong organization, multi-tasking and time management skills;
  • Strong design, graphic, and presentation skills;
  • Understanding of the design and procurement process;
  • Ability to interact professionally with office leadership and clients;
  • Ability to direct and motivate work efforts of others and handle stressful situations;
  • Ability to self-manage project assignments from start to finish with oversight;
  • Technical production skills are necessary and require a demonstrated ability to effectively produce design and construction documents. Proficiency in REVIT is preferred;
  • Understanding of relevant codes such as state building codes, ANSI 117.1, BOMA;
  • Understanding of sustainable material selection for LEED or Green Globes compliance.
  • Experience in providing FF&E design and procurement services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Collaborative involvement in all phases of the design process including programming & space planning;
2. FF+E specification;
3. Design, presentation, and construction drawings;
4. Preparation of renderings and other presentation materials;
5. Assist with vendor, consultant, and client relationships;
6. Assist with materials library maintenance and organization;
7. Test fit layout and BOMA calculation spreadsheet preparation;
8. Material, furniture, and product selection and specification;
9. Perform research related to building code and materials requirements.
10. Perform related duties as required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting.
